Ideal for: Driver briefings, depot meetings, or team refreshers.

Ideal for: Depots where defect reporting quality is inconsistent.

A focused session on common tachograph errors — missing manual entries, incorrect mode selection, late card downloads — and the legal and operational consequences. Practical and non-technical in delivery.
Ideal for: Operations with regular tachograph infringement patterns.
🎯
Bespoke Compliance Training
We design and deliver training sessions built specifically around your operation, your recent audit findings, your DVSA history, or the gaps identified in a BFT compliance audit. Content, duration, and format are all tailored to you.

🆕
New Driver Induction & Legal Compliance Checklist
What every new HGV or PSV driver — and their operator — needs to have in place before the vehicle moves

New Driver Legal Checklist

The minimum compliance requirements before a new driver starts operating

1
Valid driving licence checked and recorded
DVLA online check confirming correct licence categories, no disqualifying endorsements, and expiry date recorded.
⚠ Must be checked — not assumed from a photocopy
2
Driver Qualification Card (DQC) verified
Confirm Driver CPC is current. Check JAUPT register if in doubt. Failure to hold a valid DQC is a criminal offence for both driver and operator.
3
Tachograph card issued and system briefing completed
Driver has their own digital tachograph card (not sharing), understands correct use, and has been briefed on mode selection and manual entry requirements.
4
Operator induction completed and signed
Driver has received, read, and signed the operator's compliance policies including defect reporting, drug and alcohol policy, mobile phone policy, and vehicle check procedures.
⚠ Signed induction records are critical PI evidence
5
Medical fitness confirmed where required
DVLA Group 2 medical standards apply to HGV and PSV licence holders. Driver should have current medical certificate where applicable, and any conditions declared.
6
Drivers' hours rules briefing completed
Driver understands applicable rules (EU, AETR, or domestic), break and rest requirements, and the consequences of infringements for themselves and the operator.
7
Vehicle walkaround check procedure demonstrated
Driver has been shown the correct defect reporting process for your operation, knows what constitutes a reportable defect, and has completed a supervised walkround.
⚠ First unsupervised check should be assessed and documented
🎓 BFT New Driver Induction Training

We deliver structured new driver induction sessions — either as a standalone half-day course or integrated into your existing onboarding process. Covers all seven checklist points and provides the signed documentation your operator licence requires.

  • Covers HGV Category C/C+E and PSV Category D inductions
  • Produces signed induction records suitable for TC and DVSA scrutiny
  • Delivered at your operating centre or remotely
  • Driver CPC eligible (periodic training hours)
⚠️ Why This Matters at Public Inquiry

Traffic Commissioners regularly identify inadequate driver induction as evidence of poor operator management. The absence of signed induction records, incomplete licence checks, or untrained drivers are among the most common findings cited in PI call-up letters. Starting right protects your licence from day one.

🛡️ Already Have New Drivers Starting?

Contact us before they start operating. We can arrange a rapid induction session and produce the compliance documentation you need — quickly and cost-effectively.

Ready to Book or Enquire?

All training courses are available on a group or individual basis. We deliver at your operating centre, at a venue of your choice, or remotely where appropriate. Contact us to discuss your requirements and we will confirm availability, pricing, and scheduling.

No commitment required. We'll discuss your needs and confirm options before any booking is made.

If compliance feels uncertain, pressured, or out of balance, an early conversation can make a material difference.
