Restricted Doesn't Mean Less Risk
Restricted operator licence holders face the same DVSA enforcement, the same Traffic Commissioner powers, and the same Public Inquiry process as full Standard licence holders — but rarely have the in-house Transport Manager support that goes with it. The BFT Vault was built with you in mind.
What Is a Restricted Operator Licence?
A Restricted Operator's Licence allows you to carry your own goods on UK roads using vehicles over 3.5 tonnes — for example, builders carrying their own materials, plant hire firms moving their own equipment, or businesses transporting their own stock between sites. You cannot carry goods for hire or reward (that requires a Standard licence).
Crucially, a Restricted licence does not require you to nominate a CPC-qualified Transport Manager. That sounds like a saving — until something goes wrong.

Despite the lighter administrative burden at application stage, restricted licence holders must meet the same operating obligations as Standard licence holders:
- Maintain vehicles in roadworthy condition with documented PMIs at the declared inspection interval

- Operate from a declared, suitable operating centre
